What is monsoon season for kids?

Monsoon season is a magical period for everyone, especially kids. Everyone, from kids to adults, finds at least one reason to enjoy the monsoons. This includes the cool and relaxing weather, a bite of hot snacks with tea, standing in the rain, the smell of earth and many more reasons.

Kids do share some common monsoon enjoyments with adults, but they have their own ways of looking at the season.

Monsoon, kids and Schools

In this season, schools have a unique effect on kids. It’s a period when going to school gives them great enjoyment and the other way too. When it rains lightly, kids find it playful to witness the rain with their friends on the way to school and back. Even in classes!

The Monsoons don’t help kids with their sporting activities in school, but they enjoy this phase. On the other hand, heavy rain could lead to a holiday. This is an opportunity for kids to cuddle up in their blankets and witness the rain from their windows or facade.

How to engage kids during the monsoons

Kids don’t have to be restricted during the monsoon season. Rather, they can be taken out to certain places whenever possible, taking all precautions or being engaged in beneficial activities at home. This ensures their good health while having wonderful memories of their childhood. Hence, they would go on to share these with their kids in the future.

  • Let your kids enjoy the rain in your backyard safely
  • Encourage kids to make and play with paper boats
  • As animals and birds get relief from the summer heat, you can take your kids to the nearest zoo or wildlife sanctuary for pleasure and an educative visit.
  • Show your kids around lakes, ponds or other water bodies to witness new birds or animals that appear on their banks.
  • You could engage your kids in small homely tasks like helping with cooking ingredients or other homely chores.
  • Getting your kid’s friends for a stayover would be a great idea when they can’t go out in these rains.
  • Encourage your kid’s imagination to be expressed freely on paper, cardboard or any other safe place.
  • Get your kids to connect with their grandparents, cousins and relatives

Precautions for kids during the monsoons

The monsoons bring along their share of problems in the form of diseases. These conditions prove ideal for microbial spread. The precautions that could be taken include

  2. Use good quality umbrellas, raincoats or gumboots.
  3. Keep or advise kids to be away from dirty water.
  4. Get kids to wash their feet when they step inside the house.
  5. Use full-length clothing and mosquito nets.
  6. Ensure a nutritious and well-balanced diet.
  7. Get vaccinations on time prior to monsoons.
  8. Make sure they wash their hands before their meals and drink only potable or boiled water.
